Canon Control Ring Mount Adapter EF-EOS R
The Canon Control Ring Mount Adapter EF-EOS R allows compatible Canon EF and EF-S lenses to be used on EOS R mirrorless cameras while adding the customizable control-ring experience found on many native RF lenses.
The adapter contains no optical elements, so it does not change focal length, maximum aperture or inherent image quality. Its programmable control ring provides convenient access to exposure settings while autofocus, metering, lens stabilization and other supported electronic functions remain available.

🔄 Continue Using Compatible EF and EF-S Lenses
The adapter gives photographers a practical way to bring an existing Canon lens collection into the EOS R system.
Compatible lenses can continue to serve for:
-
Portrait photography
-
Weddings and events
-
Sports and wildlife
-
Macro photography
-
Architecture
-
Studio work
-
Video production
-
Specialized technical photography
The adapter is designed for EF and EF-S lenses. It does not adapt EF-M, RF or RF-S lenses.
🎛️ Customizable Control Ring
The integrated control ring can be assigned through the camera’s customization menu to a frequently used setting such as:
-
Aperture
-
Shutter speed
-
ISO
-
Exposure compensation
This gives adapted lenses an additional physical control similar to the ring provided on many native Canon RF lenses.
The ring’s click-stop action provides tactile feedback, allowing photographers to make deliberate adjustments without taking their eye away from the viewfinder.
📸 Faster Exposure Adjustments
Control-ring customization can simplify operation in many shooting situations.
Examples include:
-
Assigning exposure compensation for aperture-priority photography
-
Assigning aperture for direct depth-of-field control
-
Assigning ISO during changing light
-
Assigning shutter speed for sports and wildlife
-
Adjusting exposure while keeping the camera’s main dials available for other settings
Depending on the camera, the control ring can be configured to operate only while the shutter button is partially pressed, helping prevent accidental changes.
✨ No Optical Elements
The Control Ring Mount Adapter is a precision spacer with electronic contacts and no internal corrective glass.
It does not introduce:
-
A crop factor
-
Light loss
-
Teleconverter magnification
-
Additional optical aberrations
-
A change in minimum focusing distance
-
A change in the lens’s maximum aperture
A compatible EF lens maintains its original optical specifications when adapted to an EOS R camera.
⚡ Autofocus Support
Compatible EF and EF-S lenses retain autofocus through the EOS R camera’s image-sensor-based focusing system.
Depending on the lens and camera combination, supported functions can include:
-
One-Shot AF
-
Servo AF
-
Eye detection
-
Face detection
-
Subject tracking
-
Continuous movie autofocus
-
Manual-focus assistance
-
Focus peaking
Autofocus speed and continuous-shooting performance may vary with lens age, design, firmware and camera model.
🛡️ Lens Image Stabilization
Optical stabilization built into compatible EF and EF-S lenses remains operational.
On EOS R cameras with in-body image stabilization, the camera may coordinate its stabilization with supported adapted lenses. The exact operation and correction level depend on the camera and lens combination.
The adapter itself does not contain a stabilization unit.
📐 Full-Frame EF Lens Behavior
A full-frame EF lens retains its original focal length and full-frame image coverage when used on a full-frame EOS R camera.
| EF Lens | Adapted Result |
|---|---|
| EF 16-35mm f/2.8 | 16-35mm f/2.8 |
| EF 24-70mm f/2.8 | 24-70mm f/2.8 |
| EF 50mm f/1.4 | 50mm f/1.4 |
| EF 70-200mm f/2.8 | 70-200mm f/2.8 |
| EF 100mm f/2.8 Macro | 100mm f/2.8 |
The adapter does not alter the lens’s field of view. Any crop is determined by the camera’s sensor size or selected crop mode.
📷 Using EF-S Lenses
Compatible EF-S lenses can also be attached.
When an EF-S lens is mounted on a full-frame EOS R camera, the camera normally switches to its approximately 1.6x crop mode. This prevents the image area outside the EF-S lens’s intended coverage from being recorded.
On an APS-C EOS R camera, an EF-S lens uses the camera’s normal APS-C image area.
🎥 Video Applications
The Control Ring adapter is useful for filmmakers who want to continue using compatible EF photographic or Cinema EOS lenses.
Depending on the equipment, it can retain:
-
Electronic aperture adjustment
-
Autofocus
-
Lens stabilization
-
Manual-focus assistance
-
Lens identification
-
Correction data
-
Shooting metadata
The control ring can provide convenient access to ISO or another exposure setting, although its click stops may be audible through a microphone mounted close to the camera.
📡 Electronic Communication
Precision contacts maintain supported communication between the lens and camera, including:
-
Aperture commands
-
Autofocus instructions
-
Focal-length information
-
Lens identification
-
Stabilization data
-
Focus-distance information
-
Correction profiles
-
EXIF metadata
The camera recognizes the lens and records supported shooting information automatically.
🌦️ Dust- and Moisture-Resistant Construction
Weather-resistant sealing helps protect the adapter’s connection points when it is used with appropriately sealed equipment.
Protection for the complete system depends on the camera and lens as well as the adapter. The adapter is weather resistant rather than waterproof.
🦶 Removable Tripod Foot
The included tripod foot can improve balance when certain adapted lenses are mounted to a tripod.
It can be removed with the included hex key for lighter handheld use. Large telephoto lenses equipped with their own tripod collar should normally be supported by the lens collar.

🆚 Control Ring Adapter vs Standard Adapter
| Feature | Control Ring Adapter | Standard Adapter |
|---|---|---|
| EF and EF-S compatibility | Yes | Yes |
| Optical elements | None | None |
| Added control ring | Yes | No |
| Size and weight | Slightly greater | Smaller and lighter |
| Exposure control | Additional programmable ring | Camera controls only |
| Best suited to | Customized operation | Simple, economical adaptation |
Choose the standard adapter for the smallest and simplest solution. Choose the Control Ring adapter when direct access to a frequently used setting will improve handling.
🆚 Control Ring Adapter vs Drop-In Filter Adapter
| Feature | Control Ring Adapter | Drop-In Filter Adapter |
|---|---|---|
| EF and EF-S compatibility | Yes | Yes |
| Customizable control ring | Yes | No |
| Drop-in filter slot | No | Yes |
| Optical magnification | None | None |
| Best suited to | Direct exposure control | Polarizing and neutral-density filtration |
Choose the Control Ring adapter for everyday adapted-lens operation. Choose a Drop-In Filter adapter when rear-positioned filtration is more important, particularly with lenses that lack conventional front filter threads.
🆚 Adapted EF Lenses vs Native RF Lenses
Compatible adapted EF lenses can continue to provide excellent results while photographers transition into the EOS R system.
Native RF and RF-S lenses may offer:
-
More compact optical designs
-
Faster camera-to-lens communication
-
Newer focusing systems
-
Improved coordinated stabilization
-
Native control rings
-
Features developed specifically for EOS R cameras
Cameragraphics concentrates on current Canon mirrorless products and does not stock the DSLR product line, but the adapter allows customers who already own compatible EF or EF-S lenses to continue using them.
