Canon EG-E2 Extension Grip for EOS R8 Mark II
The Canon EG-E2 Extension Grip is designed specifically for the Canon EOS R8 Mark II, adding extra height and support for a more secure, comfortable grip while preserving the camera’s compact design.
It provides a natural resting place for the photographer’s little finger and improves balance when using larger or heavier RF lenses. Its camera-matching shape and finish create a clean, integrated appearance that looks and feels like part of the EOS R8 Mark II body.

Improved EOS R8 Mark II Handling
The EOS R8 Mark II is designed to provide full-frame performance in a compact, travel-friendly body. The EG-E2 extends the bottom of the camera to provide additional gripping area without sacrificing that portability.
The added height gives the little finger a comfortable place to rest, creating a fuller and more secure grip. This can be particularly helpful during long shooting sessions or when working with larger hands.
Better Balance with Larger Lenses
The additional support provided by the EG-E2 helps balance the EOS R8 Mark II when it is paired with larger zooms, fast-aperture lenses, and telephoto lenses.
A more secure hold can make the camera feel steadier and easier to control while photographing wildlife, sports, weddings, events, portraits, and other subjects that require extended handheld shooting.
Convenient Battery and Card Access
The EG-E2 attaches directly to the bottom of the camera without requiring removal of the EOS R8 Mark II battery-compartment cover.
A dedicated access opening allows the camera’s battery and SD memory card to be replaced while the extension grip remains attached. This helps keep the camera ready for use without repeatedly removing and reinstalling the accessory.
Integrated Tripod Mount
A built-in 1/4"-20 tripod socket allows the camera to be mounted on a tripod, monopod, quick-release plate, or compatible support system without removing the grip.
The tripod socket maintains the camera’s standard mounting functionality while the EG-E2 is installed.
Quick, Tool-Free Installation
The extension grip attaches to the camera’s tripod socket and is secured using an integrated turn dial. No tools are required, making the grip easy to install or remove whenever the shooting situation changes.
Hand-Strap Compatibility
The EG-E2 supports the separately available Canon Hand Strap E2, providing an additional option for photographers who want greater security and support when carrying or operating the camera by hand.
Designed to Match the Camera
Canon designed the EG-E2 specifically for the EOS R8 Mark II, with contours, texture, and a matte-black finish that complement the camera body.
Unlike a generic baseplate, the extension follows the shape of the camera for a sleek, integrated appearance and comfortable handling.
Important: This Is an Extension Grip
The EG-E2 is an ergonomic grip extension rather than a powered battery grip. It does not hold an additional battery and does not add a vertical shutter release or duplicate camera controls.
Its purpose is to improve hand comfort, balance, and support while retaining the EOS R8 Mark II’s compact size.

How It Compares
Compared with Using the Camera Without a Grip
The EOS R8 Mark II remains smaller and lighter without the EG-E2. Adding the extension provides more room for the hand, a resting point for the little finger, and improved balance with larger lenses.
Compared with a Battery Grip
A traditional battery grip adds power capacity, vertical controls, weight, and considerable bulk. The EG-E2 is a simpler and lighter accessory designed specifically to improve ergonomics while retaining the camera’s compact character.
Compared with a Generic Baseplate
Generic plates may provide tripod or quick-release compatibility but are not necessarily shaped for comfortable handheld use. The EG-E2 is designed specifically around the contours, battery compartment, and handling of the EOS R8 Mark II.
