Canon Mount Adapter EF-EOS R

The Canon Mount Adapter EF-EOS R allows compatible Canon EF and EF-S lenses to be used on EOS R mirrorless cameras while maintaining electronic communication between the lens and camera.

Its straightforward design contains no optical elements, so it does not change a lens’s focal length, maximum aperture or inherent image quality. Autofocus, exposure metering, lens stabilization and other supported electronic functions remain available, making this the simplest adapter for photographers moving an existing Canon lens collection to the EOS R system.

⭐ Key Benefits

  • Mounts compatible Canon EF and EF-S lenses on EOS R cameras

  • Contains no optical elements

  • Does not change focal length

  • Does not reduce the maximum aperture

  • Maintains autofocus with compatible lenses

  • Maintains automatic exposure control

  • Supports compatible lens image stabilization

  • Transfers lens and shooting information

  • Durable metal front and rear mounts

  • Dust- and moisture-resistant construction

  • Compact and lightweight

  • Removable tripod foot included

🔄 Bring Existing Canon Lenses to EOS R

The adapter provides a physical and electronic connection between an EF or EF-S lens and an RF-mount camera.

It is useful for photographers who already own compatible lenses for:

  • Portrait photography

  • Sports and wildlife

  • Macro photography

  • Architecture

  • Events and weddings

  • Video production

  • Specialized focal lengths

  • Occasional backup use

The adapter does not convert EF-M lenses and cannot be used to attach RF or RF-S lenses to an EF-mount camera.

✨ No Optical Elements

The standard Mount Adapter EF-EOS R is an empty precision spacer with electronic contacts. It does not contain corrective or magnifying glass.

As a result, it does not introduce:

  • A crop factor

  • Light loss

  • Additional optical aberrations

  • Teleconverter magnification

  • A change in minimum focusing distance

An EF lens maintains its original focal length and maximum aperture when adapted to an EOS R camera.

⚡ Autofocus Support

Compatible EF and EF-S lenses retain autofocus through the camera’s image-sensor-based focusing system.

Depending on the particular lens and camera, supported capabilities may include:

  • One-Shot AF

  • Servo AF

  • Face and eye detection

  • Subject tracking

  • Manual-focus assistance

  • Electronic distance information

  • Focus peaking during manual focus

  • Continuous autofocus during video

Autofocus behavior and continuous-shooting performance can vary with lens age, design, firmware and camera model.

🛡️ Lens Image Stabilization

Image stabilization built into compatible EF and EF-S lenses remains operational.

On EOS R cameras with in-body image stabilization, the camera may coordinate its stabilization with supported adapted lenses. The exact level of correction and division of stabilization duties depend on the particular camera and lens.

The adapter itself does not contain a stabilization mechanism.

📐 Full-Frame EF Lens Behavior

A full-frame EF lens retains its normal focal length and full-frame image coverage when used on a full-frame EOS R camera.

Examples include:

EF Lens Adapted Result
EF 24-70mm f/2.8 24-70mm f/2.8
EF 50mm f/1.8 50mm f/1.8
EF 70-200mm f/2.8 70-200mm f/2.8
EF 100mm f/2.8 Macro 100mm f/2.8
EF 100-400mm 100-400mm

Any field-of-view crop comes from the camera’s sensor size rather than the adapter.

📷 Using EF-S Lenses

Compatible EF-S lenses can also be mounted through the adapter.

When an EF-S lens is attached to a full-frame EOS R camera, the camera normally switches to its approximately 1.6x crop mode. This avoids recording the portion of the image circle that the smaller-format lens was not designed to cover.

On an APS-C EOS R camera, an EF-S lens behaves as expected for the APS-C format and does not require an additional crop beyond the camera’s normal field of view.

🎥 Video and Cinema Applications

The adapter is useful for filmmakers who already own compatible EF photographic or Cinema EOS lenses.

Depending on the lens and camera combination, it can retain:

  • Autofocus

  • Manual-focus assistance

  • Aperture control

  • Lens stabilization

  • Lens metadata

  • Peripheral-illumination correction

  • Chromatic-aberration correction

Some cinema lenses are entirely manual, while electronically controlled features vary by model.

📡 Electronic Lens Communication

Precision electronic contacts transfer supported information between the camera and lens, including:

  • Focal length

  • Aperture

  • Focus commands

  • Stabilization instructions

  • Lens identification

  • Distance information

  • Correction data

  • EXIF metadata

The camera displays and records the effective settings just as it would with a native electronic lens.

🌦️ Dust- and Moisture-Resistant Construction

Sealing around the adapter helps protect the connection points when it is paired with appropriately sealed equipment.

Weather protection for the complete system depends on the camera and lens as well as the adapter. The adapter is weather resistant rather than waterproof.

🦶 Removable Tripod Foot

A removable tripod foot provides an additional mounting point for supported equipment.

This can improve balance when using certain adapted lenses that do not have their own tripod collar. The foot can be removed with the included hex key when it is not needed.

Large telephoto lenses with a dedicated tripod collar should normally be supported by the lens collar rather than by the adapter or camera body.

📸 Ideal For

  • Photographers moving from Canon DSLR equipment to EOS R

  • Existing owners of compatible EF lenses

  • Existing owners of compatible EF-S lenses

  • Professionals with specialized EF telephoto lenses

  • Macro and architectural photographers

  • Filmmakers using compatible EF lenses

  • Schools and studios with an established EF lens collection

  • Anyone wanting a simple adapter without additional controls

🆚 Standard Adapter vs Control Ring Adapter

Feature Mount Adapter EF-EOS R Control Ring Mount Adapter
EF and EF-S compatibility Yes Yes
Optical elements None None
Added control ring No Yes
Size and weight Smaller and lighter Slightly larger and heavier
Best suited to Straightforward lens adaptation RF-style exposure control

Choose the standard adapter for the most compact and economical solution. Choose the Control Ring adapter when direct access to aperture, ISO, shutter speed or exposure compensation is important.

🆚 Standard Adapter vs Drop-In Filter Adapter

Feature Standard Adapter Drop-In Filter Adapter
EF and EF-S compatibility Yes Yes
Optical magnification None None
Drop-in filter slot No Yes
Works with lenses lacking front filter threads No added filter solution Yes
Best suited to General adaptation Polarizing, ND or clear-filter use

The Drop-In Filter adapter is especially valuable with ultra-wide, fisheye and large telephoto lenses that cannot accept conventional front filters.

🆚 Adapted EF Lenses vs Native RF Lenses

Adapted EF lenses can continue to provide excellent image quality and useful autofocus performance, making the adapter a practical way to preserve an existing investment.

Native RF and RF-S lenses may offer:

  • More compact designs

  • Faster camera-to-lens communication

  • Newer autofocus technologies

  • RF control rings

  • Improved coordinated stabilization

  • Optical designs optimized for the shorter RF mount

Cameragraphics focuses on current Canon mirrorless equipment and does not stock the DSLR product line, but this adapter allows customers who already own compatible EF or EF-S lenses to continue using them on an EOS R camera.

⚠️ Compatibility Notes

The adapter is designed for Canon EF and EF-S lenses. It is not compatible with:

  • Canon EF-M lenses

  • Canon RF or RF-S lenses

  • FD-mount lenses without a different specialized adapter

  • EF lenses mounted to DSLR bodies through the adapter

  • RF extenders placed between an EF lens and this adapter

Some third-party EF-mount lenses may require a firmware update or may not support every camera feature. Compatibility should be confirmed with the lens manufacturer.
