🎬 Cinematic Full-Frame Image Quality

The FX2 pairs a 33MP back-illuminated full-frame sensor with Sony’s BIONZ XR image processor. This combination produces detailed footage with natural color, smooth tonal transitions, and low noise across a wide range of lighting conditions.

Full-frame 4K recording at up to 30p uses full-pixel readout and approximately 7K oversampling for increased detail and reduced moiré. For higher frame rates, the camera records 4K at up to 60p in Super 35 mode.

🌈 More Than 15 Stops of Dynamic Range

When recording with S-Log3, the FX2 provides more than 15 stops of dynamic range to preserve detail in bright highlights and deep shadows. This gives filmmakers greater control when shooting high-contrast scenes and grading footage in post-production.

Dual-base ISO settings of 800 and 4000 in S-Log3 help maintain clean image quality in both controlled lighting and darker environments.

🎨 S-Cinetone and Custom LUT Support

S-Cinetone provides natural skin tones, rich color, and smooth highlight roll-off directly from the camera. It is ideal for productions that need an attractive cinematic look without extensive color grading.

For more advanced workflows, the FX2 supports S-Log3 and S-Gamut3.Cine. Up to 16 user LUTs can be imported and displayed on the LCD or electronic viewfinder. Selected LUTs can also be applied during recording for a customized in-camera look.

🎞️ Flexible Professional Recording

The FX2 supports DCI 4K and UHD 4K recording with internal 10-bit 4:2:2 color sampling. XAVC S, XAVC S-I, and XAVC HS formats provide options for image quality, file size, compression, and editing performance.

A full-size HDMI Type-A connection can output 16-bit RAW video data to a compatible external recorder. The camera also supports Variable FPS recording, time-lapse creation, and in-camera de-squeeze viewing for 1.3x and 2.0x anamorphic lenses.

🎯 AI-Powered Autofocus and Framing

A dedicated AI processing unit provides Real-time Recognition AF for people, animals, birds, insects, cars, trains, and airplanes. Human pose estimation helps maintain focus even when a subject’s face or eyes are partially obscured.

AI Auto Framing can automatically crop and follow a recognized subject, creating the appearance of an additional camera operator. This is especially useful for interviews, presentations, demonstrations, and solo productions.

🚶 Advanced Handheld Stabilization

Five-axis in-body image stabilization reduces camera shake when working handheld. Active Mode and Dynamic Active Mode provide increased correction for walking shots and other camera movement.

The FX2 records stabilization metadata that can be used with Sony Catalyst software for additional adjustment during post-production.

👁️ Tilting Electronic Viewfinder

Unlike the FX3 and FX30, the FX2 includes a built-in 3.68-million-dot OLED electronic viewfinder. The viewfinder tilts from 0 to 90°, allowing comfortable monitoring at eye level or from low camera positions.

The viewfinder is particularly useful when shooting outdoors in bright sunlight, where an LCD monitor can be difficult to see. A side-opening vari-angle touchscreen remains available for gimbal work, self-recording, and high- or low-angle composition.

📷 Enhanced Still-Photography Capabilities

The 33MP sensor makes the FX2 a capable professional still camera as well as a Cinema Line video camera. It records high-resolution JPEG, HEIF, and RAW photographs and includes a dedicated switch for moving quickly between still and movie operation.

The camera also supports Log still-image capture and the application of imported LUTs, helping hybrid creators maintain a consistent visual style across photographs and video.

🎙️ Included Professional XLR Handle

The supplied Sony XLR handle provides two full-size XLR/TRS combination inputs with selectable line, microphone, and 48V phantom-power settings. A third 3.5mm input supports an additional audio source.

The handle connects through the camera’s Multi Interface Shoe, providing a clean digital audio connection without a separate cable or battery. It also offers a secure top grip and additional threaded mounting points for microphones, monitors, lights, and wireless receivers.

❄️ Designed for Extended Recording

An internal cooling fan and heat-dissipation structure support extended recording sessions. Fan behavior can be adjusted for different working environments, including productions where quiet operation is important.

Front and rear tally lamps, an illuminated recording button, and an optional red recording frame on the display make recording status easy to confirm.

🔧 Compact and Expandable

The FX2’s flat-top Cinema Line body includes multiple 1/4"-20 mounting points for attaching accessories directly to the camera. It can be used as a compact handheld system or incorporated into a larger shoulder, gimbal, drone, or studio rig.
