🌎 Expansive Ultra-Wide Perspective
On a Sony APS-C camera, the 11-20mm range provides an angle of view similar to approximately 16.5-30mm on full frame.
At 11mm, it captures sweeping landscapes, dramatic architecture and confined interiors. Toward 20mm, it provides a more natural wide-angle perspective for travel, environmental portraits and everyday video.
🌙 Constant f/2.8 Aperture
The bright f/2.8 maximum aperture remains available throughout the zoom range. This provides better low-light capability than many variable-aperture ultra-wide lenses and helps maintain consistent exposure while zooming.
It is particularly valuable for photographing night skies, dim interiors, evening cityscapes and indoor events.
🔍 Advanced Optical Performance
The optical design uses specialized GM, XLD and LD elements to reduce distortion, chromatic aberration and color fringing.
Tamron’s BBAR-G2 coating helps suppress flare and ghosting when photographing directly toward the sun, artificial lights or other bright sources. Images retain excellent clarity and contrast from the center of the frame to the edges.
🌼 Impressive Close-Focusing Capability
At 11mm, the lens focuses as close as approximately 15cm and provides a maximum magnification of approximately 1:4.
This allows photographers to place a subject prominently in the foreground while retaining an expansive view of the surroundings. It is excellent for flowers, food, products and dramatic travel details.
⚡ Fast RXD Autofocus
Tamron’s Rapid eXtra-silent stepping Drive provides fast, accurate and quiet autofocus. The lens supports compatible Sony features such as Eye AF, subject tracking and continuous autofocus.
Quiet focusing makes it equally useful for still photography and video recording.
🎒 Compact and Lightweight
Weighing approximately 335g, the lens balances comfortably on compact Sony APS-C cameras. Its small size makes it easy to carry while hiking, traveling or working with a handheld video rig.
The lens accepts standard 67mm filters, allowing photographers to use protective, polarizing and neutral-density filters without a specialized holder.
🎥 Excellent for Video and Content Creation
The ultra-wide perspective works well for establishing shots, interiors, real-estate walkthroughs, travel videos and handheld content creation.
Its constant f/2.8 aperture helps maintain exposure while zooming, and quiet RXD autofocus reduces unwanted operating noise during recording.
🛡️ Ready for Outdoor Use
Moisture-resistant construction provides added confidence when photographing outdoors. The front element features a fluorine coating that repels moisture and oil while making fingerprints and dirt easier to remove.
The lens is also compatible with Tamron Lens Utility software for supported firmware updates and customization functions.

⚖️ How Does It Compare?
Compared with the Sigma 10-18mm f/2.8 DC DN Contemporary
The Sigma begins slightly wider and is smaller and lighter. The Tamron extends to 20mm, provides excellent close-focusing capability and offers a similarly bright constant f/2.8 aperture.
Compared with a Standard Sony Kit Zoom
A kit zoom generally begins around 16mm, which is much less expansive than the Tamron’s 11mm setting. The Tamron also provides a brighter constant f/2.8 aperture and stronger low-light performance.
Compared with an Ultra-Wide Prime
A prime lens may provide a brighter aperture or smaller dimensions, but the Tamron offers flexible framing from 11mm through 20mm without requiring a lens change.
Compared with a Full-Frame Wide-Angle Zoom
The Tamron is designed specifically for APS-C cameras, allowing it to remain compact and lightweight. Full-frame Sony bodies may use it in APS-C crop mode, although its full resolution will not be available.
