📷 Versatile Telephoto Coverage
The 70-300mm range is useful for a broad variety of subjects.
At 70mm, it works well for full-length portraits, nearby action and larger subjects. The middle of the range handles candid photography and outdoor events, while 300mm provides useful reach for wildlife, field sports, aircraft and distant details.
🦅 Substantial 300mm Reach
The 300mm telephoto setting allows photographers to isolate distant subjects and simplify distracting backgrounds.
When used on a Nikon DX-format Z camera, the lens provides a field of view similar to approximately 105-450mm on full frame, offering additional apparent reach for wildlife and sports.
⚡ Fast and Quiet RXD Autofocus
Tamron’s Rapid eXtra-silent stepping Drive provides smooth, accurate and quiet autofocus for still photography and video.
The lens supports compatible Nikon functions including Eye-Detection AF, Hybrid AF and continuous subject tracking. Its quiet operation is particularly useful for wildlife, ceremonies and video recording.
🔍 Excellent Optical Performance
The 15-element, 10-group optical design incorporates a low-dispersion element to help control chromatic aberration and color fringing.
Tamron’s BBAR coating suppresses flare and ghosting while maintaining strong contrast and natural color around bright light sources.
🎒 Exceptionally Portable
At approximately 580g, the lens balances comfortably on Nikon Z cameras and is easy to carry while traveling, hiking or attending outdoor events.
Its compact construction makes it a practical alternative to larger professional telephoto lenses. The lens accepts 67mm filters.
🌼 Useful Close-Focusing Capability
The lens focuses as close as approximately:
-
80cm at 70mm
-
1.5 meters at 300mm
At its longest setting, it provides a maximum magnification ratio of approximately 1:5.1. This makes it useful for flowers, larger insects and smaller subjects that cannot easily be approached.
🎥 Suitable for Outdoor Video
Quiet RXD autofocus makes the lens useful for recording wildlife, sports, performances and distant subjects.
The lens does not include optical Vibration Compensation. It can benefit from the in-body stabilization available in compatible Nikon Z cameras or from a tripod or monopod—especially when recording near 300mm.
🛡️ Designed for Outdoor Photography
Moisture-resistant construction provides added confidence when working outdoors. The front element features a fluorine coating that repels moisture and oil while making fingerprints and dirt easier to remove.
Its lightweight design is particularly beneficial during extended handheld sessions.

⚖️ How Does It Compare?
Compared with the NIKKOR Z 100-400mm f/4.5-5.6 VR S
The Nikon provides greater reach, built-in VR and professional S-Line construction. The Tamron begins wider and is substantially smaller, lighter and easier to carry.
Compared with the NIKKOR Z 70-200mm f/2.8 VR S
The 70-200mm provides a much brighter constant aperture, optical stabilization and professional controls. The Tamron reaches another 100mm while remaining dramatically lighter and more compact.
Compared with the Tamron 150-500mm VC VXD
The 150-500mm provides much greater reach and built-in stabilization for serious wildlife photography. The 70-300mm is considerably smaller and better suited to travel and everyday telephoto use.
Compared with a DX Kit Telephoto
A DX telephoto may be smaller, but the Tamron covers the entire sensor of both full-frame FX and APS-C DX Nikon Z cameras. This makes it useful for photographers who own or may eventually upgrade to a full-frame body.
