Expand Your Micro Four Thirds Lens Options
The NF-M1 gives Micro Four Thirds photographers and filmmakers access to a large selection of Nikon F-mount lenses. It is especially useful for adapting existing Nikon telephoto, macro, portrait, and specialty lenses.
Because the adapter does not contain focal-reducing optics, it does not add additional glass between the lens and camera.
Electronic Lens Communication
The integrated electronic contacts support important functions with compatible equipment, including:
-
Autofocus
-
Electronic aperture adjustment
-
Lens-based VR stabilization
-
EXIF data transmission
-
Focus confirmation
Available features and focusing performance vary according to the particular lens, camera, and firmware combination.
Important Compatibility Information
The NF-M1 works best with compatible Nikon AF-S and AF-P lenses that contain an internal autofocus motor. Older screw-drive AF and AF-D lenses do not gain autofocus through the adapter.
Autofocus may be limited to certain modes on some camera bodies. Continuous autofocus, subject tracking, and video autofocus performance can vary significantly between combinations.
Some cinema cameras, including select Blackmagic and Z CAM models, may provide electronic aperture control without autofocus. Compatibility should be confirmed for the specific camera and lens before purchase.
Micro Four Thirds Field of View
The camera’s Micro Four Thirds sensor applies its normal approximately 2x angle-of-view crop. For example, a 50mm Nikon lens provides an angle of view similar to a 100mm lens on a full-frame camera.
This can be particularly useful for wildlife, sports, and distant subjects, where additional apparent reach is desirable.
Electronic Aperture Control
An internal motor-and-gear system operates the aperture mechanism of compatible Nikon lenses, allowing the f-stop to be adjusted from the Micro Four Thirds camera.
This is especially useful with Nikon G- and E-type lenses that do not have a physical aperture ring.
Lens-Based VR Support
Compatible Nikon VR lenses can retain their optical Vibration Reduction functionality. This can help reduce blur when shooting handheld with longer lenses or in lower light.
Firmware Upgrade Support
The integrated USB connection allows users to install firmware updates released by Viltrox. Keeping the adapter, lens, and camera firmware current is recommended for the best possible compatibility.
Durable Construction
Metal bayonet mounts provide a secure connection at both ends of the adapter. Gold-plated electronic contacts support dependable communication, while the compact 126g design adds relatively little weight to the camera system.

Micro Four Thirds photographers with Nikon F lenses
-
Panasonic Lumix and OM System/Olympus users
-
Blackmagic Pocket Cinema Camera users
-
Wildlife and sports photographers
-
Filmmakers adapting Nikon lenses
-
Photographers transitioning between camera systems
-
Owners of Nikon macro or specialty lenses
How It Compares
Compared with a Manual Adapter
A basic manual adapter only provides a physical connection. The NF-M1 adds electronic aperture control, EXIF transmission, compatible autofocus, and support for lens-based VR.
Compared with a 0.71x Speed Booster
The NF-M1 contains no focal-reducing optics. It maintains the lens’s original optical characteristics but provides the normal Micro Four Thirds field of view. A 0.71x focal reducer provides a wider field of view and approximately one additional stop of effective light transmission.
Compared with Native Micro Four Thirds Lenses
Native lenses generally offer the fastest and most consistent autofocus performance. The NF-M1 is most valuable when using existing Nikon glass or a specialty F-mount lens without a direct Micro Four Thirds equivalent.
